10/20/2021 Senior Boys Volleyball The Senior boys Volleyball Team returned to the unfriendly confines of the Dawg Pound yesterday after school to take on the South Huron Panthers. The pups got out to a slow start, committing way to many unforced errors, and dropping the first 8 points of the set as they got used to the new offensive system. Despite losing the first set, the team gained their form and won the second set. Adjusting the line-up in the third set, starting libero Alton Douglas was inserted at left side and provided a spark to the offense with some highlight reel hits. The team never looked back and won the remaining sets, somewhat convincingly, to improve their Huron-Perth record to a perfect two wins and zero losses. The team plays their first road games of the season against Mitchell next week.

10/21/2021 Field Hockey The field hockey team travelled to Exeter yesterday to play the undefeated team from South Huron. It was a challenging game for the Salukis, with constant pressure in our end. Goalie Matt Luyten made many saves, and the midfield and defense worked hard to limit shots. Despite great play from all players, the Salukis were blanked 5-0 by South Huron. The team finishes third in Huron-Perth and will play Goderich in the semi-finals on Monday. Team members are asked to check Google Classroom later today for more information about next week's games.
10/21/2021 Girls Basketball The senior girls bball team had another great game in the doghouse yesterday against double A madill.
After a slow start, the Salukis turned up the intensity and scored 11 in the 4th q , but it wasn’t enough to close the gap. Final score 36-27.
The Salukis will regroup against their first single A opponent next week when goderich comes to town. Woof woof!

10/22/2021 Cross Country Running At the Clinton Invitational Cross Country running race yesterday, the Salukis ran through puddles and mud to show their resilience in this sport.
The day started off with the Novice and Junior girls racing against one another running a 4.2 km run. Kiara McGregor
Charlotte Clinton and Bailey Ross cracked the top 10 with a 3rd, 4th and 7th place finish. With Lila Corby and Miatane Ostolaza placing 17th and 18th, the Junior girls have a great opportunity to secure their first win as a Junior girls team next week.
The novice and Junior Boys also ran 4.2 km. Austin deBoer finished in 7th with Griffin McGregor on his heels placing 10th. Charles Black, Adam Turner and Oliver Black finished 15th, 23rd and 30th. Very impressive boys!!
Lydia Taylor accomplished her goals in her 5km event wrapping up a podium bronze medal finish.
The senior boys ran at an incredibly fast pace. Owen Wrigley took the gold and teammate Jake Littlejohn the bronze medal. A sea of Salukis followed with Ezra Bender in 4th, Justin DeVries 6th and Colby Older 9th. Jack Switzer continued the streak sprinting to the finish, 1 second ahead of Ben Turner as these teammates were 10th and 11th. Michael Boonstra capped off the Senior Salukis runners with a 19th place finish. This team is bound to taste gold as a team at the Huron Perth championships next week.
Congratulations to all runners in their first event of our short season.
10/22/2021 Walk for Wenjack 1,556,717! Just awesome, Salukis! We have already more than covered the distance Chanie Wenjack would have walked had he made it home. Yesterday's reporting of steps was a little low, but let's really push today and try to reach the 3,149,608 steps that would have also allowed his three sisters to reach home. Your ReconciliACTION in honour of Chanie shows DCVI's commitment to "Do Something" and contribute to greater understanding in our school community.
10/12/2021 Senior and Junior Boys Volleyball Please excuse the Senior and Junior Boys Volleyball teams at 1:50 for their match today.
10/13/2021 Junior Boys Volleyball Yesterday the junior boys volleyball team started their season against the Clinton Phoenix. In their opening set the team came out strong defeating the Phoenix by a score of 25-23. In the 4 remaining sets the team had moments of greatness where they really showed how good they are and will be but at times struggled with having the energy and confidence needed to be competitive. Overall a good start to the season. The team is reminded of the practice after school tomorrow.
10/13/2021 Music Ensemble There will be an ensemble rehearsal Thursday at lunch in the music room. A rehearsal will also take place after school from 3:00PM to 4:30. All music students are invited.

The team follows up their home opener with another home game next Tuesday in the Dog Pound.

10/14/2021 Elementary Cross-Country Some of our grade 7 and 8 runners were able to participate in the Stratford Sabrecats Track Club Wildwood Challenge cross-country meet. Our runners headed out to Wildwood after school and had a great afternoon of racing!
Three grade 7's ran 2 km against some of the best in Huron and Perth counties and found great success. Nathan McKeen ran hard and fast over the tough course, and finished in 5th place. Regan Jones and Alanna Savile took on some very fast girls and earned a 3rd place for Regan and 4th place for Alanna.
Four grade 8's tested themselves yesterday over a tricky 2.5 km course, with exceptional results from all of them. On the girls side, Priya Pickel placed 8th overall, while Marin Chateauvert ran hard to her 4th place finish! For the boys, Griffin Ball placed 5th overall while Kaleb Dingman ran hard, taking over the lead with 30 metres to go, and crossed the line in first place!
Amazing results Salukis! Thank you so much for working so hard to improve over the last few weeks, and for taking the risk and testing yourself! Please see Mr. Morton at the start of lunch, he may have a treat for you that definitely doesn't fit with your training plan.
10/14/2021 100 Lap Challenge Okay, this just got serious. Mr. Chateauvert's Phys Ed class has thrown down the gauntlet. They ran for the first time on Tuesday to a time of 12 minutes and 45 seconds, narrowly moving to the top of the line for best time. Apparently that wasn't good enough for them, because they decided to destroy their Tuesday time with their Wednesday time of 10 minutes and 16 seconds. I hear they are also running today AND tomorrow. Yikes!
In non-record breaking news, a couple of classes have drastically improved their times as well! I guess that is record breaking for those classes! Well done, keep it up!
Who else is going to join the run for Ultimate Glory? Mr. Good told me he has 32 very keen science students that really want to run. Apparently he is secretly planning to have them do it very soon... Not so secret anymore, awkward!
Teachers, keep sending Mr. Morton your times, and wander by the results posted on the wall in the intermediate end if you have a chance! Great work Salukis!
10/14/2021 Field Hockey The field hockey team travelled to Listowel on Wednesday to play against league powerhouse Goderich. Faced with contstant pressure from the more experienced Goderich team, the Salukis' defence and goalie Matt Luyten worked hard to limit their scoring chances. The team was down 2-0 at the half and after regrouping they came out strong in the second half. The midfielders and forwards were able to string together a number of attacks and created scoring opportunities. Their hard work paid off midway through the half when Megan Morning found the back of the net. It was a back and forth game, and the Salukis played hard but ultimately fell 2-1. This is a great result against a strong team and the coaches were proud of the team. The team plays their final regular season match next week against the undefeated South Huron team.
10/14/2021 Sr Girls Basketball The senior girls basketball team had a great start to their season yesterday with a healthy roster of 13 players. The senior salukis hosted Stratford Secondary, a school with over 1000 students and their tough defense held them to under 40 points. The Lukes had 6 different scorers, had 3 more knocking on the door and dropped 3 threes with a final score of 39-22.

10/15/2021 The 10 Minute Mark Has Been Broken!! Wow!
10/4/2021 Field Hockey The field hockey team plays this afternoon at 4pm. Team members are asked to meet by the cafeteria doors at 3:15pm. Good luck Salukis!
10/6/2021 Field Hockey The field hockey team played their only home game of the season Monday after school. The Salukis battled to a 1-0 victory over St. Anne's with a goal from Eve Greig. Goalie Matt Luyten made some big saves and was supported by the strong defensive play of Neave Goris, Josie Corby and Anna Standeaven. Our rookies continued to demonstrate an ability to pick up a new game quickly.
The team plays again today in Clinton against Listowel. Players are excused at 12:35pm and should be on the bus by 12:45pm.
10/6/2021 100 Lap Challenge Hey Salukis, a reminder to get out and run/walk/crawl together to accomplish your 100 laps! Send Mr. Morton your total time and it will be posted on the wall beside the awards case in the intermediate end. So far we have three classes, all with bests of 15 minutes plus a bit! Great work!
10/6/2021 Run Club and Intermediate Cross-Country Meet Hey DCVI, Mr. Morton would like to see the grade 7 and 8 Run Club at 11:30 for a 1 minute meeting today. Come right at lunch, we have exciting news about a Cross-country meet for grade 7 and 8 students. For secondary students, if you are looking for volunteer hours, that could be provided by volunteering for the meet which will be held at Wildwood next Wednesday after school. Talk to Mr. Morton for details!!
10/8/2021 Field Hockey The Salukis field hockey team played against Listowel District Secondary School in Clinton on Wednesday afternoon. The teams were very evenly matched which made for an exciting game. Listowel opened the scoring early in the second half, which was the team's first goal against in three games. At that point, the team increased their offensive pressure and created numerous scoring opportunities. Veteran forwards Megan Morning, Mackenzie Fierling and Emily Shrubsole each found the back of the net, leading the team to a 3-1 victory. Midfielder Lydia Taylor was all over the field, using her aggressive style of play to control the midfield. Goalie Matt Luyten had another strong game in net. With more than half of the team made up of first year players, the team continues to impress the coaches with their ability to pick up the game. The team will face a strong Goderich squad next week.
10/8/2021 Band Meeting All students interested in band are invited to the music room for a short meeting at the beginning of lunch. Any students unable to attend are asked to see Mr. Neeb for further details.
10/8/2021 100 Lap Challenge Some times are starting to roll in! Ms. Wrigley has two classes on the board SO FAR... And her Co-ed grade 10's are leading the way with a first time of 12:55! Morton and Rae are close, both into the 14's now. We have 7 total classes who have completed the challenge. Who else is going to rise up to the challenge, and maybe set a new standard for everyone? Get out there and run Salukis!
